Shining Force
Shining Force is a port of the classic Sega RPG, first released in Japan in 1992. It's a tactical or strategy RPG, with battles arranged in square grids. You're a young swordsman leading a band of warriors against the dark forces of Runefaust, and you select from 29 characters to form your team of eleven. There are 30 turn-based strategy battles in total, and 43 monsters and 10 bosses. You get to keep experience even if you fail a battle, so you can keep trying again until you're strong enough to win. Replayability is strong, since choosing a different team makes for a totally different game, battle-strategy wise. There's some criticism that the game is too much of an emulation, not a true port, so doesn't really make use of the iPhone's controls.
